He's no stranger to the NCAA tournaments

The Siena Saints have a new leader. Gerry McNamara was named head coach for the men's basketball team on Friday. McNamara comes to Siena from Syracuse University, where he worked with the Orange for the last 15 seasons. In 2011 he was promoted to assistant coach and was named associate head coach in 2023.

During his tenure at Syracuse, McNamara helped lead the Orange to 9 NCAA tournaments, two of which the team ended up in the Final Four.

In a statement Friday, Siena College President President Dr. Charles Seifert highlighted McNamara's achievements and his hope for a successful run in the next season.

In the rich tapestry of Siena College’s history, both on and off the basketball court, this moment marks a pivotal chapter as we welcome Gerry McNamara to lead our Saints

A press conference will be held on Tuesday April 2nd at 1pm at the MVP Arena.

McNamara replaces Carmen Maciariello, who was let go by Siena at the end of the 2023-24 season, after the Saints scored only four wins.
