Update 6/14/24 5:38pm: NewsChannel 13 says the search continues in the area of the Mohawk where the man disappeared, but as of Friday evening, still no sign of him.

There is a large police presence in Montgomery County as police and divers search for a man who fell into the Mohawk River Thursday. CBS 6 reports a 31 year old man was fishing in the river near lock 12 when his pole got caught on something. As the man reached for it, he fell into the water. Another person was fishing with him and attempted to rescue him with a flotation device, but to no avail.

Montgomery County Sheriff Jeffrey Smith told CBS 6:

The current makes it difficult for any operation there by that wall. The turmoil of the water acts like a washing machine. It keeps things spinning around there but they’re doing everything they can to search it effectively to see if there is someone in there to make a recovery swiftly.

A number of different agencies are on the scene including dive teams from Saratoga County, according to NewsChannel 13

Lock 12 is currently closed as is Main Street in Tribes Hill and Fort Hunter as police conduct their search. Police are asking people to avoid the area.
