Critically Injured UAlbany Student Wakes Up From Coma

She's been in a coma for 2 weeks.

We all heard the terrible story about Alexa Kropf, the UAlbany freshman that was critically injured when she was hit by a dirt bike in Albany back on April 27th.

As of this afternoon, we are happy to hear that Alexa has woken up from her coma and she is headed in a very positive direction. The road to her full recovery is still very long and the family has to deal with this tragedy day in and day out.

Her family was able to provide this update earlier today -

She is still in critical condition but stable. She is no longer in a medically induced coma however, still being sedated, in addition to pain management. No longer on a ventilator - breathing on her own. Cervical collar has been removed. She still has a feeding tube and an external ventricular drain, measuring her internal cranial pressure of her head. Things are moving in a positive direction, just at a snail’s pace, which is expected. HOWEVER, as positive as this all sounds, and it definitely is, it doesn’t paint the true picture of what we are dealing with on a daily basis. Looking at her lying in bed head half shaved, 50 staples showing in her head from where they cut her skull open and her leg wrapped up with a rod in it. Pin in her pelvis. 5 broken ribs. Feeding tube and everything else. It makes you sick to your stomach and, knowing this piece of garbage is still out there, makes it even worse.

Alexa still has a very long road ahead of her and the family can use any help that they can get. Medical bills are piling up and will continue to do so. If you are able to help out in any way possible, please consider donating to the GoFundMe that was set up for Alexa and her family
