Here's what's playing opening weekend

It's another summer at the Malta Drive In Theater, but this season is special, as the theater is celebrating its diamond anniversary. 2024 marks 75 years for the popular summer movie spot, which opened in 1949.

Malta's owner Ed Caro told CBS 6 how Capital Region residents make every season special.

We enjoy it, first of all it’s nice operating a business where people thank you all the time. They let you know they enjoy themselves here.

Drive Ins were most popular in the 1950s and 1960s when over 4000 were up and running in all parts of the country. Today, about 300 remain nationwide.

Still, the Malta Drive In brings in thousands of movie fans every summer with their two giant screens, each with a double feature every weekend. And, unlike many other drive ins, Malta gets first-run features.

As soon as they come out we usually get them.. The studios are usually to give us the movies because we can draw a crowd.

Opening weekend runs April 26-28

  • Screen 1: Godzilla X Kong at 8pm followed by Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire at 10:05
  • Screen 2: Abigail at 8:05pm, followed by Monkey Man at 10:05

Movies are shown every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night through October.
