BHBL Schools Aiming For More Focus In The Class Room

Cell phone restrictions could be coming to Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake schools.

The latest school district to reconsider their cell phone policy in school is Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake. At a school board meeting on Monday, BHBL High School Principal Tim Brunson said that the need to cut down on distractions in the classroom is now and that it's time to change the schools cell phone policy.

The idea is that the students will still be able to use their phones in between classes, during lunch and during homeroom. During class however, students will not be allowed to be on their phones. They will also not be allowed to take their phones with them when they go to the bathroom unless they need their phone for medical reasons.

Brunson doesn't believe that BHBL doesn't need to go as far as some other districts and completely ban phones in school but clearly something needs to be done to help students remain focused during class.

During the school board meeting the Principal said -

"I anticipate that there will be some blowback at the start, but I think the positives outweigh the negatives. Number one, I think you're going to get better focus in the classroom just by removing that item for the duration of the block. Number two, I honestly think you're going to get better attendance because I think kids won't go to the bathroom as much. If they go, they'll go when they have to go, not go take a lap and check their phone,”
